How We Work
Children
We provide structured language development for children who are learning English for the first time, as well as extra stimulation for first language speakers.
· Themes: We use different themes each week to explore and develop language. The themes begin with the children; speaking about their bodies and senses and we then move to the world around them including home, school and city. We finish in the fourth term talking about animals. Themes progress from week to week.
· Vocabulary: receptive and expressive vocabulary is developed through appropriate and fun activities such as puzzles, memory games and stories.
· Grammar: learning grammar is facilitated through specific exercises and through conversations based on the themes.
· Listening Skills: these are crucial for learning a new language and for children learning to read and write.
· Confidence: is vital for effective communication and social interaction. This is enhanced and/or developed through a relaxed atmosphere and fun activities.
Who would benefit?
· All children aged 3 and older
· Children learning English for the first time
· Children needing to develop their English skills
· Children who need stimulation
· Children who are shy and withdrawn and need to enhance their confidence.
· Children growing up in bi/multilingual homes.
Evaluation:
During the first term, children are observed and assessed to determine their needs. Reports giving feedback for each child are provided at the end of the second and fourth terms.
Adults
We work with groups of staff in preschools to enhance their language ability and their interaction with the children and parents. The group sessions also expand their general knowledge, which they then share with the children they serve.
We also work with adults in the workplace or in their private capacity to improve their spoken and written English. Our adult students come from diverse backgrounds from beauty therapists and quantity surveyors to home executives.
The language sessions for adult students are negotiated to meet their needs.
